Arrow Hits Target

(Credit: CWTV)

Smutty is a TV connoisseur, and only stays awake for the finest entertainment.  Arrow from CWTV is worth missing a couple of naps.

A re-boot of the Green Arrow backstory, in this iteration, only one of Oliver Queen’s parents dies, his father.  This is sets up the entire framework of the show as the father’s dying wish leads Oliver to his mission to clean up Starling City.  There are secrets, betrayals, changing loyalties and even some teenage angst.  And action, action, action.

Although many DC characters are introduced in the storyline, none is supernatural or alien.  Their powers are all “reality” based and explainable.  The writers are kept on their toes maintaining this premise.  The lack of paranormal based story is very refreshing.  But the best part of Arrow is the great interaction of characters and layers of motivation cleverly peeled back each week.  The flashbacks to Oliver’s time on the island add spice to the current activities.

If you haven’t been watching, Smutty says set your smartphone alarm for Wednesdays at 8:00 pm EST and join in.  Arrow is the most TV fun since Smallville left the screen.

Here are some links to get you started on your latest guilty pleasure;

Bruce to The Rescue… Again!

Smutty SleepsSmutty is an action movie fan.  Not being inclined toward action himself, Smutty lives vicariously through action heroes for excitement.

There has been kind of a lull in the action at the movies since this summer’s bounty of blockbusters such as The Avengers and Batman The Dark Knight Rises.  But now, joy of joys, Bruce Willis has jumped back to Detective John McClane in A Good Day to Die Hard, coming in February, 2013.

The trailer promises more explosions, shooting, leaping from impossible heights and smart-alec quips, McClane style.

This time out, the plot centers on McClane’s son who has somehow managed to get himself in a bind in Moscow of all places.  If one McClane is trouble, two should be unstoppable.  Smutty will be banking up his naps to be able to make it through this sure to be great addition to a classic franchise.

Humans are Slow Learners

(Credit: DKemp Designs)

Perusing the day’s news, Smutty has found a few stories showing just how slow humans are to learn from their mistakes.

In a tragic story about a young girl being killed, there was this quote;

As technicians in white coveralls searched Sigg’s home, neighbors described the 17-year-old as a quiet, goth boy who often work black clothes.

He was shy and kept to himself,” said Brooke Olds, 13, who usually saw Sigg alone on a skateboard or scooter.

How many stories have to have these phrases before human parents realize they need to get their children some help?

In other news, President Obama addressed the recent Republican comment regarding rape by stating;

“I don’t know how these guys come up with these ideas. Let me make a very simple proposition: rape is rape. It is a crime,” Obama said on NBC’s “The Tonight Show.”

“This is exactly why you don’t want a bunch of politicians, mostly male, making decisions about women’s healthcare.”

Hey Republican men, how stupid are you?  Stop commenting on the subject of rape.  If you have not been raped personally, you have NO opinion or stance.  SHUT UP!!  Sorry, Smutty can only take so much stupid before the lunch nap.

And finally, Americans please note; the entire world wants President Obama to win the election.  They acknowledge that he has been a strong and thoughtful leader through some serious crisises on the world stage.  Hmmm, Smutty thinks the countries dealing directly with the President are in a better position to rate his performance than Republican blowhards.  Please note what is being said;

1. Obama’s foreign policy works
Overseas, the president has an undeniably strong record,…Obama has shown he’s capable of “mixing muscularity with restraint,” … while relentlessly going after terrorists and playing a limited but key role in forcing regime change in Libya. Meanwhile, the world sees Romney displaying “the hubris of the powerful and the ignorance of the uninformed,” thumping his chest and scaring folks overseas.

2. The world is associating Romney with Bush
In many ways, this isn’t really a reflection on Romney,… the possibility that many foreign publics associate Republicans with George W. Bush, whose administration was deeply unpopular abroad.”  (bold and italics are Smutty’s)

Smutty’s just sayin’ go vote informed.

Romnesia and the Rumble

Obama 2012
(Credit; addictinginfo.org)

The President coined a phrase for a new disease this week, “Romnesia” and let us know that this pre-existing condition is covered under Obamacare.

The Salt Lake Tribune demonstrated the evidence of this disease in their post regarding “Too Many Mitts”.  This publication has formerly praised Romney on his accomplishments, however they now state his frequent switches in policy make him unknowable.

On the other hand, Romney’s son Tagg (you’re it) demonstrated the poor parenting skills of both parents by publicly stating that he wanted to “jump out of his chair and take a swing at him” because the President told his father that some of his statements were not true.

Well Tagg, if your dad cannot take the time to check his facts before a debate for the Presidency of the United States of America, he deserves to be told he is not telling the truth.

And Gov. Romney, if your grown son cannot control his mouth without making treasionous statements against the highest office in the land, he does not deserve to be on your campaign staff.  Not to mention what it says about how you raised him.

If you run your house like this, we don’t want you as President.

Romney Flip Flops Again

Smutty is wearing a neck brace.  He strained his neck from trying to keep up with Mitt Romney’s constantly changing stream of lies.  (And hey, check out the hairstyle change from early “car salesman” to a more laid back modern style).  Smutty is interested in seeing the “binders full of women” though.

Mitt Romney has spent over a year stating he will cut taxes for the wealthy, eliminate Obamacare and of course, the infamous “47%” quip,

“There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what,” Romney said in the video. “There are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe that government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you name it.”

“Forty-seven percent of Americans pay no income tax,” Romney said, and that his role “is not to worry about those people. I’ll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives.”

This statement was vigorously defended by Romney the day after it was revealed to the American public.  Mr. Romney is now saying he was wrong about the 47 percent, and he is “for” 100 percent of Americans.  So, once again, Romney backtracks on something he says.

Further, Romney cannot possibly be “for” 100% of Americans because 100 percent of Americans do not want tax cuts for the wealthy (including some wealthy humans).  Gov. Romney’s plan to not raise taxes for middle class is hinged on eliminating current deductions for mortgages, children and the Earned Income Credit.  A reduction of tax percent cannot offset the benefit of these deductions.  (Check Smutty’s arithmetic here)

Why should the middle class give up these critical deductions to fund Romney’s plan to increase defense spending that the Department of Defense does not want?  Further, Romney cannot even keep his campaign budget balanced, how can he balance a multi-trillion dollar deficit?  Check out the GreyWolf‘s comments on Romney’s fundraising plans.

Romney is quick to criticize the President’s work.  However the jobless rate has fallen again, proving that we are on the right track for the long haul.  Romney is not interested in the long haul, he wants quick riches for himself and his rich friends that they can take out of the country.  Romney’s own finances are operated by a “blind trust” (his words) meaning he can absolve himself from responsibility for investing in companies that are pioneers in outsourcing jobs, and parking the bulk of his wealth in Cayman Island banks.

Quick patches that benefit the rich are not what America needs.  Our economy is in tatters and needs a long-term rebuilding plan that depends on the hard work values of the middle class.  President Obama is committed to that long-term battle.  The question is, are you?  Just what are you willing to do to ensure your CHILDREN inherit a stable economy in a SAFE country?  You want the quick fix or security for your children and grandchildren?

President Obama stated his priorities for the economy are;

  • 1 build manufacturing jobs in America
    2 give tax incentives to companies who hire here
    3 make sure we have the best education system in America
    4 control our own energy, invest in solar, wind, and biofuels
    5 take money we have spent on war to rebuild America

When asked about the long term unemployed, Romney did not answer the question.  Instead, he spent his time blaming the President, not explaining how he will create 12 million jobs with his “5 point plan” which has never been explained. Every question asked was answered by repeating his tired lies on how he will clamp down on China and cut taxes.

When asked “What have you done to win my vote in 2012”  President Obama answered clearly;

  • I cut taxes for middle class families
  • I cut taxes for small business
  • I ended the war
  • I reformed health insurance
  • I reined in the excesses of wall street
  • Going from losing jobs to creating jobs
  • Plan for manufacturing and education
  • The commitments I’ve made I’ve kept.  And I’m working on the rest.

For the 25 people who missed the first debate, Smutty has posted the full PBS video below.  Of course, if Romney is elected, this may be the last PBS video ever.

Here is the full second debate video courtesy of The New York Times.

Romney the Bully Comes to the Debate

VoteDid Romney really continuously interrupt the President of the United States of America and the moderator?  Yes.

Romney continuously interrupts and speaks over the moderator.  “No, I’ve got to answer this” really?  You can’t even follow debate rules, why would you follow the Constitution?  Someone interview the moderator him after the debate and ask him who he’s voting for.

While this approach certainly showed him as more focused on  his prepared verbiage, it also showed him for the bully he is and not the friendly, “I’m in your corner guy” he wants.

Smutty witnessed it for himself.  Romney was being asked to specifically state how his numbers added up, and having no answer, decided to speak over everyone else to make his lame excuses.  If you really want to know what Romney is up to, read Romney’s plan for yourself here.

Saying you will reduce the tax rate on middle class Americans while eliminating deductions is no reduction.  Basically, his plan is to reduce your tax rate and sock it to you by eliminating up to $6,000.00 of deductions for children, mortgage taxes, child and elder care and the Earned Income Credit.  So you’ll see $10.00 extra in your weekly check (net $520.00 for the year) and lose up to $6,000.00.  How’s that Arithmetic Romney?

Romney says he  has never heard of companies getting a tax break for moving jobs overseas is stupid.  Every American over the age of 10 knows that companies have been getting tax breaks for years for moving plants to other countries.  How can he state he has never  heard of this?  It just shows how out of touch he is with regular Americans.  Yes Romney, you do need a new accountant.

Lower benefits for higher income seniors?  Where did you pull this from Romney?  Why is this a good idea?  Perhaps have them pay a higher portion of the cost for the same care?  Smutty doesn’t think anyone should get lesser benefits.  The AARP doesn’t like you Romney.  Go Obama, for pointing out that “Obamacare” was modeled on Romney’s plan.  At no point did Romney show a difference in his plan except to burden the states with funding and implementing it.

Romney states he is “not planning to cut spending for education…” where will the money come from if you reduce the deficit and don’t raise taxes?

Even though Romney was able to stay on track for once, his facts were, as usual off.

ROMNEY: Obama’s health care plan “puts in place an unelected board that’s going to tell people ultimately what kind of treatments they can have. I don’t like that idea.”

THE FACTS: Romney is referring to the Independent Payment Advisory Board, a panel of experts that would have the power to force Medicare cuts if costs rise beyond certain levels and Congress fails to act. But Obama’s health care law explicitly prohibits the board from rationing care, shifting costs to retirees, restricting benefits or raising the Medicare eligibility age. So the board doesn’t have the power to dictate to doctors what treatments they can prescribe. (Yahoo!).

ROMNEY on cutting the deficit: “Obamacare’s on my list. … I’m going to stop the subsidy to PBS. … I’ll make government more efficient.”

THE FACTS: Romney has promised to balance the budget in eight years to 10 years, but he hasn’t offered a complete plan. Instead, he’s promised a set of principles, some of which — like increasing Pentagon spending and restoring more than $700 billion in cuts that Democrats made in Medicare over the coming decade — work against his goal. He also has said he will not consider tax increases.

He pledges to shrink the government to 20 percent of the size of the economy, as opposed to more than 23 percent of gross domestic product now, by the end of his first term. The Romney campaign estimates that would require cuts of $500 billion from the 2016 budget alone. He also has pledged to cut tax rates by 20 percent, paying for them by eliminating tax breaks for the wealthiest and through economic growth.

To fulfill his promise, then, Romney would require cuts to other programs so deep — under one calculation requiring cutting many areas of the domestic budget by one-third within four years — that they could never get through Congress. Cuts to domestic agencies would have to be particularly deep.

Romney states likes regulations now?  Check out his plan for America where he promises to roll back regulations on “Day One”.

Directs all agencies to immediately initiate the elimination of Obama-era
regulations that unduly burden the economy or job creation, and then caps
annual increases in regulatory costs at zero dollars

By the way Romney, the bail out of banks was Bush’s when he strong armed Americans by saying “the economy will collapse” if we didn’t offer this to the banks.  Obama had to reign in these same banks when they used the funds to give bonuses to their executives.  He made them return the funds and he forced the banks to pay back the money.  Since many have done this, there is NO cost to Americans.  Not what Bush intended, but Obama made it work.

Romney is going to have a “Day One” that lasts 72 hours based on the list of things he has promised to do.

To sum up, Romney’s debate points directly contradict his own written plan posted on the internet for all to read.  How can anyone believe him when he changes his tune on a daily basis.  His debate points were more moderate than previous outings, but again, he has written down what he intends to do.  Read and decide if you want unions busted, regulations dissolved and your tax deductions eliminated.

Romney didn’t win the debate, he just managed to not make an utter fool of himself as he has done in previous speeches and at the convention.  Bottom line, do you trust a man who posts a plan to do one thing and goes to a debate and says he is not going to do what he wrote.  Then go vote.

Looper is Fast-Paced Sci-Fi Action

Looper

Bruce Willis is one of Smutty’s favorite actors and Looper is shaping up to be another of his great works.  A fresh premise, great acting and plenty of mayhem are Smutty’s idea of a great film formula.

In Looper, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Bruce Willis play the same character, Joe, at different ages.  Through time travel, the mob places hits on their enemies.  Joe is sent back 30 years in the past to be bumped off by his younger self.

Since the elder Joe is played by Bruce Willis, we know he is not just going to go quietly.  And that’s where the fun starts.

Grimm Delivers Fast-Paced Fairy Tales

If you haven’t checked out Grimm on NBC, you are missing out on one of Smutty’s best guilty pleasures. Well written with action, drama and occasional dark humor, this is one of the best things on network TV.

Strictly in the PG-13 category, Grimm is fairy tales meets Michael Myers/Freddy Kruegger and a dash of NCIS. These are not the bedtime stories you tell your kittens and puppies. Catch up on the network site if you are just joining.

Cybergeddon, the Latest Web Series From Yahoo!

(Credit) DKemp Designs

Smutty is pondering litigation.  It seems the creators of CSI have come up with a new Web series called Cybergeddon.  It appears to be a great project, but the title is dangerously close to Smutty’s own movie Smuttageddon.

Couldn’t they have found another name for it?  Why have the confusion, Smutty has enough competition without the creators of CSI adding to his troubles.

Well, check out the trailer and let Smutty know what you think.

Bill Clinton Jazzy Without Sax

To wrap up Smutty’s coverage of the DNC, here is the word from Obama BFF Bill Clinton.

Former President Bill Clinton delivered the nomination address at the DNC and wowed as usual.  But in less than one hour, Clinton addressed every one of the Republican’s so-called issues with President Obama and revealed them for the lies they are.

By having facts and accurate figures at his fingertips, Clinton destroyed all of the rhetoric proclaimed at the RNC.

The best quotes; “We’re all in it together” “Arithmetic” “Their number one priority is not to put America back to work, it is to put President Obama out of work” “We left him a total mess, he hasn’t cleaned it up fast enough so fire him and put us back in”.  Shouldn’t the Republicans be concentrating on positive outcomes for the American public, not just getting President Obama out?  Smutty’s just sayin’.  Check the video for yourself,  Smutty gives it 4 paws of apawoval.
