Thor Delivers Thunderous Fun

SmuttyCat as ThorWell SmuttyCat must offer 4 paws up for the exciting romp offered by Thor: The Dark World. This installment in the franchise has action, drama and loads of humor.  Audiences can enjoy without taking anything too seriously. Warning; Spoiler Alert ahead.

How could Marvel top the first installment in Thor? Well, how about Asgardan flying spaceships! Yep, Asgard uses candles and lanterns but has spaceships and flying canoes. But SmuttyCat digresses. The story centers around the coming alignment of the nine realms which will allow travel between realms and activate a deadly force which has been dormant since before the beginning of history.

Of course, Jane Foster becomes infected with this force and becomes the focal point for unleashing the wrath of the Dark Elves who want to control the force and destroy all universes. Why? Well apparently they liked it dark and empty.

After a massive attack on Asgard itself, Thor turns to Loki for help ending the threat. The plan doesn’t go exactly smooth and Thor has to race to Earth to face the Dark Elves alone. Now, SmuttyCat ponders why not even one other hero, or SHIELD, could manage to make it to the big showdown, but, then it wouldn’t be Thor’s movie.

If you haven’t seen Thor, go now. This is another super Marvel movie with non-stop fun. For the next installment, if Chris Helmsworth is not available, maybe Marvel will consider SmuttyCat.

Ender’s Game is the Beginning of Fun

Ender’s Game is a science-fiction/action movie based on the novel and series of Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card. The premise is that Earth is in a war with an insectoid alien race and has battle schools to train children with games from an early age to fight the aliens.

Ender, the main character, shows exceptional skills in these games and becomes the lynchpin of humanity’s survival. Kind of familiar territory in the broad strokes, the details are what make this story SmuttyCat appawed. There’s political intrigue, explosions, space fighting, and if that’s not enough, Harrison Ford. ‘Nuff said.

If you haven’t read the novels, here is a great cheat sheet to get you ready to have some fun at the movie.

Trekkies Rejoice: The Mission Continues

SmuttyCat is a long time fan of sci-fi and all things Trek.

Now a great group has banded to bring us fresh episodes of adventures from Star Trek The Original Series.  With staff and crew who have plenty of professional chops, this is a great project. Scotty is even played by the son of James Doohan.  What more could you want? Well, maybe Uhura could get a better wig that doesn’t move as much. After all, hairspray was a staple in the period and they are trying to be accurate. Also, Spock will need to work on the one-eyebrow lift patented by Leonard Nimoy. It just adds that ultra-Vulcan touch.

Currently there is one complete episode available to watch with a current Kickstarter campaign to raise additional funds for future episodes. SmuttyCat is always in  favor of more Star Trek of any kind (except Enteprise, that’s quite enough of that) and strongly encourages everyone to open their piggy banks and donate now to improve entertainment.

Enjoy the first episode, “Pilgrim of Eternity” starring Michael Forest reprising his role as Apollo below.  And keep up with the news on their website. And if you donate, let them know SmuttyCat sent you.

Watch long and prosper.

Breaking News — Democracy Suspended!

Human politics are amusing to the superior animal kingdom. With animals, the strong survive, the children are protected and life is simple and clean. No one holds a baby sparrow hostage because they don’t get catnip

On the other hand, human politics involve a lot of silly posturing that could never be backed up in a one on one smackdown for leadership. For instance, a minority Republican party recently shut down the American government in a temper tantrum because they don’t like healthcare being extended to everyone. What a stupid show. If you can’t be the pitcher you take your bat and glove and go home? Very evolved.

Now, SmuttyCat has learned that in a secret meeting, the House Republicans repealed the right of any member of congress to call for a vote to re-open the government in the event of a stalemate. So, not only did the stupid humans shut down the government, they won’t face their bosses (the American people) and vote in public to say they did this.

Um, does anyone remember Democracy? The right of the people to know how the government is run? The right of the people to know and vote on changes? No secret meetings.

Only after the videos below were made public, did the Republicans finally vote to extend the budget and re-open the government. SmuttyCat won’t go into all the ways this is stupid, look at the videos and speak for yourselves.

And remember this stuff next election. Humans deserve adult representatives, not tantrum-throwing toddlers.

Superman, Batman and… SmuttyCat?

SmuttyCat-Batman
I’m Batman

The long awaited Superman and Batman team up movie has been announced, but fans are now in an uproar over casting.  As expected, Henry Cavill will reprise his role from Man of Steel.  With Christian Bale bowing out of the Batman role after Dark Knight Rises, a new Batman was needed.  And in walks controversy in the form of Ben Affleck.

Who is Batman

Now, SmuttyCat has nothing against Ben and thought his performance in Armageddon was excellent. But the fans have a point, if he killed off one superhero franchise (Daredevil), maybe he shouldn’t be trusted with another.  After all, Michael Keaton left an indelible impression of what Batman/Bruce Wayne should be. Tightly contained, a little demented and quietly brillant.  A cool combination of genius and the type of insanity not easily recognized that can be channeled into a weapon.

SmuttyCat for one has never seen these qualities depicted by Ben Affleck in his roles.  So, while not saying Ben can’t pull it off, the fans have reason to be wary.  But SmuttyCat has the answer to the fans’ concerns.

SmuttyCat as Batman

SmuttyCat is a genius, he loves gadgets wants to be a billionaire playboy and everyone knows he is insane! What more purrfect combination could you want? As an added bonus, SmuttyCat resides in the Metro Detroit area and the movie will be filmed here, so money will be saved on travel expenses.

So, fans, get on Twitter and Facebook and let the producers and director know: You want SmuttyCat as Batman! Tweet to the world and let’s get this movie on track.

Saturday SmuttyCat Smiles

Transformers 4 Filming in the “D”

Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4SmuttyCat loves hot cars and giant robots (but he is afraid of giant robots).  So SmuttyCat is super smug these days.  After all,  Transformers 4 is filming in Detroit.  There is a certain excitement to watch parts of your home city being demolished by invisible giant robots that can turn into cars.  After all, if any city would have robots morphing into automobiles, it would be the automotive capital of the world, Detroit.

Speaking of cars, SmuttyCat is in the market for a Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 Coupe and a 1200-horsepower Bugatti Grand Sport Vitesse.  Anyone know where he can get a deal?

Sadly, filming has moved on to the actual China, not the one built in downtown Detroit, but many fans were kind enough to post video of the time in the “D”.  Enjoy the clips below courtesy of spectators on YouTube and let SmuttyCat know in the comments if you’ll be writing the Big Three to ask “when is my car going to save the world?”.

The Blacklist Explodes Fun

SmuttyCat has been looking for something to replace Leverage for a while now.

Finally NBC has come up with The Blacklist, a fast paced action/mystery/crime story with a twist.  Call it Hannibal Lecter meets Die Hard.

Check out the trailer and let SmuttyCat know if you’ll be joining him on September 23.  If nothing else, it’ll fill the time in until Arrow starts back up October 9.

The Dark World is Comming

ThorThe Marvel hits keep on coming with Thor: The Dark World arriving November 8 and the official trailer being released for Geek Week.

While Thor tries to fix all the problems created by Loki from the first Thor for the nine realms, along comes more trouble from before recorded history.  Just what a hero needs, ultimate trouble.  While Marvel has kept the exact nature of the threat under wraps, comic fans everywhere are speculating that it will be Malekith or Surtur, or possibly a combo.  All we know is that the threat is “a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself” (Marvel press release).

No matter the villian, Thor: The Dark World has plenty of action, beautiful Asgard scenery and of course, Jane Foster (Natalie Portman).  Jane lets Loki know her feelings on his attack of earth pretty clearly.  Go Jane!  In addition, Thor (Chris Helmsworth) has longer hair giving him more of the Norse god look than before.  As if all those muscles needed accenting.

If you need more reasons to watch when it comes out, the video below says it all.

With Captain America: The Winter Soldier on April 4, 2014, Guardians of the Galaxy on August 1, 2014 and The Avengers 2 on May 1, 2015, SmuttyCat may not get any sleep until 2016.  Yawn, nap time right after another peek at The Wolverine.

2 Guns of Fun

2 Guns MovieThis summer just doesn’t give SmuttyCat’s eyes a break.  Last Friday there was the wonderful The Wolverine and today starts the weekend off with a giant bang from 2 Guns.

2 Guns features a pair up of Denzel Washington and Mark Whalberg.  The two dance through numerous car crashes, explosions and some great puns and double-entendres.  As a buddy cop movie goes, this is the most fun since MIB 1.

Bobby (Washington) and Stig (Whalberg) are undercover agents whose assignments unwittingly overlap leading to major mishaps and being cut off from their agencies.  They have to team up even though they don’t like each other to beat the bad guys and get their reputations back.

No, this movie is not intellectual, it is good old fashioned summer mindless movie mania at it’s best.  The stock plot line is refreshed with snappy dialog and great acting.  Grab your popcorn and go now.  Smutty will be at the matinee showing.

And SmuttyCat must say, never has yogurt been such a great gag object.

Thanks to Yahoo! Movies for the trailers.
