Dwayne McDuffie: Comic Giant

Smutty has long been interested in animation, comics and superheroes.  However, the inspiration for creating a feature animation came from following the career of Dwayne McDuffie.  Smutty believes in giving credit where it’s due, so this post is dedicated to the great animation talent, Dwayne McDuffie.

First and foremost, Dwayne was a native Detroiter, born, raised and educated here.  His education included a master’s degree in physics.  No silly fanboy here.  McDuffie has worked at Marvel, DC and co-founded Milestone Media, the first minority-owned comic publishing company.  His work includes printed comics and screen animation.

Even if you are unfamiliar with Mr. McDuffie, you have probably seen his work.  Justice League Crisis on Two Earths and Justice League Doom were both written by McDuffie.

He created Static Shock!, wrote and produced Justice League Unlimited and wrote for many other titles including Ben 10: Alien Force and Teen Titans.

Sadly, McDuffie died on February 21, 2011 the day after his 49th birthday.  He leaves behind a legacy of pioneering work for other minority comic fans and creatives to follow and enjoy.  Smutty gives him the 4 paw up salute.

Thank you Dwayne, you are loved and missed still.

Excellent Fun with Electric City

Smutty notes the large amount of successful animated films (Madagascar, Brave, Ice Age), and predicts this trend will continue as entertainment merges more into everyday life.  Now Smutty has discovered a great new animated series on Yahoo, Electric City created by Tom Hanks (yes, that Tom Hanks).

The concept falls into dark, film noir, post-apocalyptic category with very mature themes, action and speech.  Do not let the kiddies see this.  Do not let the teenagers see this.  But as adult entertainment, this is superior work and the twists and turns keep you guessing who is on the side of good.

Smutty has posted the first three episodes below to get you hooked into the fun.  Have a great weekend!
