Fantastic Four Reboot Clobbers Boring

This is what the Fantastic Four should have been. Fun, adventure and great effects. The addition of the Marvel team to Fox and friends ramps up the fun factor by 200 with great results.

Unexpected casting, a twist on the origin story (from Ultimate Fantastic Four) and effects that come straight from the Disney/Marvel toolbox deliver a movie to look forward to. Now, SmuttyCat is not saying this is the next Avengers: AOU, but the FF reboot is clearly a summer fun romp. Action, effects and Dr. Doom, what more could you want?

Check out the trailer and get ready to spend August 7, 2015 inside your local theater.

Gotham Grabs You

SmuttyCat would like to introduce you to his new love: Gotham. A beautifully scripted and acted drama on Fox TV by DC and Warner.

The story centers on the time immediately following Thomas and Martha Wayne’s murder. The development of heroes and villans is shown up close and in gritty color. Gotham does a wonderful job of showing how a simmering cesspool of greed and apathy explodes into super freaks. It becomes clear that if Batman had not come along to save this city, it may have been nuked off the planet by neighbors.

Ah, yes the DC TV comics machine rolls on. Marvel may be the massive behemoth of the big screen, but DC has become the undisputed champ of the weekly series in comics.

Following on the strong response to Arrow and Flash, Gotham shows that good stories and compelling characters will still bring in viewers. The only question SmuttyCat has is why DC would farm this show out to a different network. CW has been doing such a great job, did Fox out bid them? Something to ponder during nap time. Enjoy the clip, then be hooked.

Yep, Batman has a Son

Well, we all knew that Batman/Bruce Wayne had an interesting personal life. Now the backstory of Batman and Talia, daughter of Ra’s al ghul comes back to the forefront in  a new DC animated film, Son of Batman.

This is the story of Batman learning of the son he never knew he had and having to deal with the League of Assains’ training Damian has grown up with.

If the full film is anything like the trailer, DC has another hit. And of course, SmuttyCat is delivering the trailer, courtesy of DC and YouTube.

Winter Soldier Coming in Spring

SmuttyCat was not sure about the follow-up Captain America film, The Winter Soldier. But after reviewing the trailer, SmuttyCat is looking forward to spring. With the Falcon, a ‘mystery’ villian who can only be Bucky Barnes, and Nick Fury, this is one stand up cast. And of course, the ever lovely and butt-kicking Black Widow.

Chris Evans seems to have gotten wayyy tough since his run in with aliens. Although there seems to be a recurring theme to the movies following Avengers “insert-hero-name-here gets their butt kicked really bad before winning”. Just in case you thought they were going to walk all over the villians now.

SmuttyCat will need to do some power napping in March to prepare for all this action. If you haven’t seen the trailer yet, of course SmuttyCat is providing it here. Let us know what you think, epic follow-up or fail?

Thor 2 Bonus Fun

For SmuttyCat, one of the highlights of Thor: The Dark World was Loki (Tom Hiddleston) as comic relief. While not detracting from the main storyline, Loki provided several great moments on screen.

One of the main scenes was not used in the film, but is provided with the DVD/Blu-Ray. This shows Loki dressed as Captain America and needling Thor. The scene was re-shot with Chris Evans mimicking Tom’s performance.

And fear not fans, Loki’s jokester scenes do not detract from how dangerous he is for Asgard and Thor.

In case you haven’t picked up your copy yet, SmuttyCat has the clip below courtesy of io9.com. Comment below on Chris’ take on Loki.

Superman, Batman and… SmuttyCat?

SmuttyCat-Batman
I’m Batman

The long awaited Superman and Batman team up movie has been announced, but fans are now in an uproar over casting.  As expected, Henry Cavill will reprise his role from Man of Steel.  With Christian Bale bowing out of the Batman role after Dark Knight Rises, a new Batman was needed.  And in walks controversy in the form of Ben Affleck.

Who is Batman

Now, SmuttyCat has nothing against Ben and thought his performance in Armageddon was excellent. But the fans have a point, if he killed off one superhero franchise (Daredevil), maybe he shouldn’t be trusted with another.  After all, Michael Keaton left an indelible impression of what Batman/Bruce Wayne should be. Tightly contained, a little demented and quietly brillant.  A cool combination of genius and the type of insanity not easily recognized that can be channeled into a weapon.

SmuttyCat for one has never seen these qualities depicted by Ben Affleck in his roles.  So, while not saying Ben can’t pull it off, the fans have reason to be wary.  But SmuttyCat has the answer to the fans’ concerns.

SmuttyCat as Batman

SmuttyCat is a genius, he loves gadgets wants to be a billionaire playboy and everyone knows he is insane! What more purrfect combination could you want? As an added bonus, SmuttyCat resides in the Metro Detroit area and the movie will be filmed here, so money will be saved on travel expenses.

So, fans, get on Twitter and Facebook and let the producers and director know: You want SmuttyCat as Batman! Tweet to the world and let’s get this movie on track.

The Dark World is Comming

ThorThe Marvel hits keep on coming with Thor: The Dark World arriving November 8 and the official trailer being released for Geek Week.

While Thor tries to fix all the problems created by Loki from the first Thor for the nine realms, along comes more trouble from before recorded history.  Just what a hero needs, ultimate trouble.  While Marvel has kept the exact nature of the threat under wraps, comic fans everywhere are speculating that it will be Malekith or Surtur, or possibly a combo.  All we know is that the threat is “a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself” (Marvel press release).

No matter the villian, Thor: The Dark World has plenty of action, beautiful Asgard scenery and of course, Jane Foster (Natalie Portman).  Jane lets Loki know her feelings on his attack of earth pretty clearly.  Go Jane!  In addition, Thor (Chris Helmsworth) has longer hair giving him more of the Norse god look than before.  As if all those muscles needed accenting.

If you need more reasons to watch when it comes out, the video below says it all.

With Captain America: The Winter Soldier on April 4, 2014, Guardians of the Galaxy on August 1, 2014 and The Avengers 2 on May 1, 2015, SmuttyCat may not get any sleep until 2016.  Yawn, nap time right after another peek at The Wolverine.

Wolverine is Coming!

The Wolverine Movie
Smutty Cat is in the middle of a summer glut of great movies. There are so many, Smutty Cat is falling behind on his naps.
Now along comes The Wolverine movie, another Marvel spectacular.

Spoiler Alert!

This adventure finds Logan, aka Wolverine wandering and dealing with the aftermath of having to kill his teammate and love interest, Jean Grey after she nearly destroyed the world.  He does not seem to be taking it well.

As usual, when Logan is trying to be left alone, trouble comes knocking.  Can’t a guy just drink whiskey and smoke a stoogie in peace?  Apparently not.  While debating the merits of an offer to make him mortal, trouble from the past tries to make the offer moot.

Logan responds Wolverine style.

From Smutty Cat’s perspective, Wolverine is the most complex and interesting of the X-Men characters.  Maybe it’s the claws, but Smutty Cat really identifies with this character.

Let Smutty Cat know if you’ll be clawing into theaters to see The Wolverine.

Summer Movie Mania

Here in the great Midwest the weather has warmed just enough to give SmuttyCat and friends dreams of summer fun.  SmuttyCat has been busy working on his animation debut and missed keeping humans updated with the latest movie and entertainment news.

2013 is shaping up to be another super hero extravaganza.  While Iron Man 3 is the most anticipated and sure to be a blockbuster, there are several other action adventures waiting for the summer 2013 kickoff.

First up, Man of Steel on June 14, where we find out that the “S” on Superman’s chest means hope.  Hmmm, SmuttyCat thought it stood for the House of El as a family crest from Smallville. Well, S drama aside, the trailers all seem to point to another hit movie for Warner.

Check with Techsnoop’s Helper on Friday for a look at After Earth, another great looking summer hit-to-be.
