The Sad Goodbye to Leverage

leveragesliceSmutty is in deep mourning.  For Christmas, TNT brought a lump of coal to fans in the form of cancelling Leverage.

Great television comes few and far between.  Choosing to develop characters well and create complex plots you can’t figure out before the opening credits is an art form.  If you did not have the pleasure of watching this series, you missed a great show.  Go get the DVDs.  If you are a fan, join Smutty in grieving for a smart, well scripted, well acted, creative slice of television heaven.

Those responsible, please watch your legs.  Cats everywhere will be sharpening their claws on your pants.  You have been warned.

Spoiler Alert!

On the plus side, the final episode is a great set up for a new series (hint, hint USA, anyone??).   The cast can incorporate more guest stars and a number of changes to the format that would be great.  It would also be fun to see Elliot using his more than capable brains more often.  Smutty enjoys watching him beat the bad guys down, but a change up would be fun.

If you haven’t had the pleasure of watching this stand out program, here is the finale for the series.  There are many references to previous episodes, so you may want to start at the beginning.

Rise of the Guardians, a New Superhero Movie

Smutty is always looking for a superhero movie, but does not usually find them in the Holiday films between Thanksgiving and Christmas.  This year is an exception.

Rise of the Guardians is a fresh take on the idea of a superhero and the role of Santa, the Tooth Fairy, Sandman and the Easter Bunny.  The visuals from Dreamworks are as rich and stunning as Smutty could hope for in an animated movie.

And how can you lose with voicing from Hugh Jackman, Alec Baldwin and Chris Pine?  Smutty believes this is the next holiday classic.

The bad guy here is fear going by the name Pitch.  He of course, wants to take over the world, not understanding that Smutty already has done this.  The concept is fresh, the pacing brisk enough to keep the attention of little humans and the voices snappy and funny.  This movie will make you believe again.

Black Friday Morphs into Black Thursday

Smutty loves turkey and naps.  A day that celebrates both is Smutty’s idea of a perfect holiday.  So, the idea of giving up any part of a day of food, family and napping leaves Smutty baffled.

Why, oh why, would anyone get up from a feast and leave to go shopping?  For stuff no one needs?

What about leftovers?  What about seconds? What about the naps during the Christmas movies?

black Thursday

Smutty says it is time to put an end to the madness.  Keep Thanksgiving sacred.  Don’t shop unless it’s from your couch.  Use your laptop or tablet to browse.  Don’t leave your family to go shopping.

If you do go, don’t complain when you return to no pie or dark meat from the turkey.  Thanksgiving shopping for anything other than gravy and cranberry sauce is just wrong.

Bruce to The Rescue… Again!

Smutty SleepsSmutty is an action movie fan.  Not being inclined toward action himself, Smutty lives vicariously through action heroes for excitement.

There has been kind of a lull in the action at the movies since this summer’s bounty of blockbusters such as The Avengers and Batman The Dark Knight Rises.  But now, joy of joys, Bruce Willis has jumped back to Detective John McClane in A Good Day to Die Hard, coming in February, 2013.

The trailer promises more explosions, shooting, leaping from impossible heights and smart-alec quips, McClane style.

This time out, the plot centers on McClane’s son who has somehow managed to get himself in a bind in Moscow of all places.  If one McClane is trouble, two should be unstoppable.  Smutty will be banking up his naps to be able to make it through this sure to be great addition to a classic franchise.

Humans are Slow Learners

(Credit: DKemp Designs)

Perusing the day’s news, Smutty has found a few stories showing just how slow humans are to learn from their mistakes.

In a tragic story about a young girl being killed, there was this quote;

As technicians in white coveralls searched Sigg’s home, neighbors described the 17-year-old as a quiet, goth boy who often work black clothes.

He was shy and kept to himself,” said Brooke Olds, 13, who usually saw Sigg alone on a skateboard or scooter.

How many stories have to have these phrases before human parents realize they need to get their children some help?

In other news, President Obama addressed the recent Republican comment regarding rape by stating;

“I don’t know how these guys come up with these ideas. Let me make a very simple proposition: rape is rape. It is a crime,” Obama said on NBC’s “The Tonight Show.”

“This is exactly why you don’t want a bunch of politicians, mostly male, making decisions about women’s healthcare.”

Hey Republican men, how stupid are you?  Stop commenting on the subject of rape.  If you have not been raped personally, you have NO opinion or stance.  SHUT UP!!  Sorry, Smutty can only take so much stupid before the lunch nap.

And finally, Americans please note; the entire world wants President Obama to win the election.  They acknowledge that he has been a strong and thoughtful leader through some serious crisises on the world stage.  Hmmm, Smutty thinks the countries dealing directly with the President are in a better position to rate his performance than Republican blowhards.  Please note what is being said;

1. Obama’s foreign policy works
Overseas, the president has an undeniably strong record,…Obama has shown he’s capable of “mixing muscularity with restraint,” … while relentlessly going after terrorists and playing a limited but key role in forcing regime change in Libya. Meanwhile, the world sees Romney displaying “the hubris of the powerful and the ignorance of the uninformed,” thumping his chest and scaring folks overseas.

2. The world is associating Romney with Bush
In many ways, this isn’t really a reflection on Romney,… the possibility that many foreign publics associate Republicans with George W. Bush, whose administration was deeply unpopular abroad.”  (bold and italics are Smutty’s)

Smutty’s just sayin’ go vote informed.

Romnesia and the Rumble

Obama 2012
(Credit; addictinginfo.org)

The President coined a phrase for a new disease this week, “Romnesia” and let us know that this pre-existing condition is covered under Obamacare.

The Salt Lake Tribune demonstrated the evidence of this disease in their post regarding “Too Many Mitts”.  This publication has formerly praised Romney on his accomplishments, however they now state his frequent switches in policy make him unknowable.

On the other hand, Romney’s son Tagg (you’re it) demonstrated the poor parenting skills of both parents by publicly stating that he wanted to “jump out of his chair and take a swing at him” because the President told his father that some of his statements were not true.

Well Tagg, if your dad cannot take the time to check his facts before a debate for the Presidency of the United States of America, he deserves to be told he is not telling the truth.

And Gov. Romney, if your grown son cannot control his mouth without making treasionous statements against the highest office in the land, he does not deserve to be on your campaign staff.  Not to mention what it says about how you raised him.

If you run your house like this, we don’t want you as President.

Grimm Delivers Fast-Paced Fairy Tales

If you haven’t checked out Grimm on NBC, you are missing out on one of Smutty’s best guilty pleasures. Well written with action, drama and occasional dark humor, this is one of the best things on network TV.

Strictly in the PG-13 category, Grimm is fairy tales meets Michael Myers/Freddy Kruegger and a dash of NCIS. These are not the bedtime stories you tell your kittens and puppies. Catch up on the network site if you are just joining.

Bill Clinton Jazzy Without Sax

To wrap up Smutty’s coverage of the DNC, here is the word from Obama BFF Bill Clinton.

Former President Bill Clinton delivered the nomination address at the DNC and wowed as usual.  But in less than one hour, Clinton addressed every one of the Republican’s so-called issues with President Obama and revealed them for the lies they are.

By having facts and accurate figures at his fingertips, Clinton destroyed all of the rhetoric proclaimed at the RNC.

The best quotes; “We’re all in it together” “Arithmetic” “Their number one priority is not to put America back to work, it is to put President Obama out of work” “We left him a total mess, he hasn’t cleaned it up fast enough so fire him and put us back in”.  Shouldn’t the Republicans be concentrating on positive outcomes for the American public, not just getting President Obama out?  Smutty’s just sayin’.  Check the video for yourself,  Smutty gives it 4 paws of apawoval.

Word From the Top; “I am the President”

Smutty had to skip a few naps but he watched the entire speech from President Obama at the DNC.  If you missed it, Smutty has graciously posted it below.  There were so many good phrases and sound bites it is hard to choose, but Smutty’s favorite is this;

Michelle Obama Rocks the DNC

The video speaks for itself.  Michelle Obama is great, beautiful, smart, supportive, well spoken and down to earth.  What more can be said, Smutty is in LOVE!

Smutty likes this so much he borrowed 2 paws from a friend to give it 6 paws up!

BTW, Mrs. Obama, can you ask the Prez if he will add pet food to the food stamps of low income families?  That way they won’t have to let their pets go or have them put to sleep.
