Great Sci-Fi Escapes

Smutty NapSmutty found some great Sci-Fi to veg out on.  When you need a stay-cation for the weekend or just need to spend quality time with your pet, try out some of these.  If you haven’t seen them from the beginning, use a streaming service or the network web site to go back and catch up on episodes.

Star Wars Clone Wars *FAMILY FRIENDLY*
The very notion of Sci-Fi comes from both Star Trek and Star Wars. These two franchises set the gold standard for the type. Clone Wars has stunning visuals and is set between the second and third Star Wars movies .  It follows Jedi knights Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker in their roles as generals of the Clone Wars. Shared adventures take them across worlds both familiar and not, fighting with the clone army in battles against the Separatists, and other foes old and new.

The show provides a glimpse into never-before-seen parts of the Star Wars universe, and like the movies is a great family shared adventure.

Alphas
Currently airing on SyFy, Alphas is about a group of seemingly normal people who have superpowers, called Alpha abilities, like heightened senses, strength and the ability to see communications signals as streams of data.

Along with their psychologist, Dr. Rosen, they’re employed by the government as part of a secret program to track down criminal Alphas. It starts out as a by-the-books superhero tale and quickly becomes an intriguing mix of secret agendas, questionable loyalties, and surprising twists that’ll have you wondering who the bad guys are.

Falling Skies
A tale of invasion set after alien overlords have decimated most of the human race, leaving only a few pockets of resistance struggling to fight back. The series focuses on one group in particular, a mixture of civilians and military from Massachusetts.

The greatness of the show plays off of the human drama that unfolds among the survivors rather than massive special effects battle sequences.

Futurama – *NOT FOR KIDS*
A hilarious series following the misadventures of an intergalactic delivery company called Planet Express. The central character, Philip J. Fry, is a regular pizza-eating, beer-drinking everyman from the 20th century who gets cryogenically frozen and wakes up in the 31st century.

He find himself in one crazy situation after another, along with his very decrepit great nephew Professor Farnsworth, a headstrong cyclops named Leela, an alcoholic robot named Bender, and a whole host of other oddballs. While not for the whole family, this is great fun for not sensitive adults.
